Why Fundraise?
There is a fundraising requirement that should
not be considered a cost. We actively seek volunteers who
see fundraising as a challenge! Those volunteers who feel they can
"buy"the experience are not the type of motivated individuales
we are seeking for! The fundraising requirement enables the vast majority
of our volunteers participate for free, by raising the necessary funds.
The funds will go to the following ends:
* Travel, room and board at the Volunteer
Diabetes Training Program
* Camper attendance and camp sponsorship (Volunteer
fundraising allows our programs to be free to all campers who would
not otherwise be able to attend for financial limitations)
* Purchasing projectsupplies: medical,
educational, and general
* International airfare for the volunteer
to and from Ecuador
* Stipend to host family (who will provide
room and board before camp or lodging)
In addition to the above costs, fundraising
fulfills other important purposes. It gives volunteers an opportunity
to actively engage themselves in helping the children we are serving
in the local country even before arriving. Furthermore, the awareness
that volunteers raise while speaking to friends, family, and foundations
is very valuable to AYUDA's growth as a strong presence in the citizen
sector (non- profit) world.
*Volunteers traveling from outside the United
States may be required to additional funds if their flights to the
host country are considerably more costly than those from the United
States.
*Please note that the fundraising requirement does
not cover:
-Immunizations & Medical examinations
-Passport/visa fees – your passport must expire no less than 6
months from the date of departure to your project destination.
-Departure Tax from International Airport (Currently varies between
$20 -$40)
† A $20 non-refundable application fee must
accompany New Volunteers' applications. If accepted, this fee will
be applied toward the Volunteer's fundraising requirement.
†† Returners, please inquire about
your specific program's fundraising requirement with
Merith Basey (mbasey@ayudainc.net)
Why are countries' fundraising requirements diferent?
Each program takes a very different shape, depending on the needs of our local partner. The fundraising requirements have been carefully designed based on the budget of carrying out the program, taking into consideration the program's needs and the local economy.
The fundraising requirements have been carefully
designed based on the budget outlining the costs of carrying out the
program in the local country, which in large part is dependent on
the country's economy.
Fundraising Support
We do understand that the fundraising requirement
may be a bit intimidating. AYUDA provides all volunteers with support
for their efforts. Once accepted, you will receive an extensive fundraising
resource kit, as well as personalized support for your initiatives.
Volunteers that are in the same city or general area can connect to
undergo fundraising efforts of they so desire. Past volunteers have
been very successful in their fundraising efforts. In order to reach
this requirement volunteers have written letters to family and friends,
applied for grants from their universites, hosted parties and spoken
in front of service clubs and religious organizations. Furthermore,
all volunteers will be connected through an online interactive group,
in which they can meet each other, share ideas, and troubleshoot together.
