The Field programs are designed for a smaller volunteer team and vary in length. Field programs consist of a combination of youth empowerment and leadership training as well as a variety of specialized outreach initiatives. These programs are fast-pased and require more specialized training prior to participation. While first time volunteers have participated and been successful in different Field programs, these experiences are usually recommended for returning volunteers. First time volunteers are still welcome and encouraged to apply when they feel the program would be a good fit. Local Partnerships
In all volunteer programs, the AYUDA Team always works with a local partnering organization that provides AYUDA the contact with local youth that are served through AYUDA’s iniatives and collaboration with local youth leaders to work side-by-side with AYUDA’s volunteers.
Underserved Communities
In the countries in which AYUDA runs volunteer programs, the local youth that benefit from these programs represent underserved communities. In particular, children and adolescents with chronic conditions such as diabetes lack the education and support they need to live happy, healthy lives. Too many of these youth suffer from alienation and preventable complications as a result of their diabetes.
We target these young people because a lack of education is just as dangerous as a lack of insulin. The goal is not only to provide education that improves the management of their diabetes, but to empower these youth so they become leaders and mentors for other youth within their own communities.
