In 1996, two teenagers with the vision that youth can serve as agents of change founded the non-profit organization, American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad, Inc. (AYUDA)
Since then, AYUDA has:

Other Accomplishments
Published a diabetes management guide in Spanish, “Manejando la Diabetes” (“Managing Diabetes”)
Facilitated the establishment of two diabetes organizations in Ecuador: la Fundación Diabetes Juvenil Ecuador and la Asociación Ecuatoriana de la Diabetes (first national youth-led diabetes organization)
Established and ran Campo Amigo Internacional ’03, the first international diabetes camp for youth leaders with representatives from 14 countries worldwide and have since made the program an annual event connecting international youth diabetes leaders
Established and organized Campo Amigo Ecuador, a national diabetes camp held annually since 1999
Helped to create La Asociacion Mexicana de Diabetes de la laguna by inaugurating the association’s first national diabetes camp, Campo Amigo ’98
Inaugurated and helped organize the Bermuda Diabetes Association’s first camp in 2005, Camp Honey Bee
Established the AYUDA Leadership Award to sponsor and enable international diabetes youth leaders to attend diabetes activities and training sessions outside of their respective countries
Initiated the DELTA Program an analysis into action program with the Belizean Diabetes Association in 2006
Established and continues to run volunteer programs in Latin America attracting volunteers from the United States, Colombia, Mexico, Canada, England, Germany and France
